As a Software Engineering Apprentice – Android at Jack Henry, you’ll have the opportunity to drive innovation and build platforms that will help financial institutions innovate faster, differentiate strategically, and advocate for their members and communities. You’ll collaborate cross functionally with a diverse team of engineers, architects, leaders, product managers and customers to ensure we deliver high quality software that meets the needs of our users.
Our engineers manage cloud and/or on-prem solutions and are responsible for writing clean, maintainable code, implementing new features, resolving bugs, and fostering collaboration within the team. Successful engineers will have strong technical skills and effective grasp of software design principles, object-oriented programming concepts, and testing methodologies. Depending on the product group areas you contribute to, you'll have the opportunity to code in various modern languages and leverage cutting edge tools such as Scala, C#, Java, Ruby, Kotlin, Objective-C, Swift, Go, Docker, Kubernetes, Swagger/OpenAPI, Node.js, Redis, Postgres, Azure, Google Cloud (GCP) and more.

About the Team
This apprenticeship sits within OCTO, Jack Henry’s technology organization focused on delivering innovative financial services for community banks and credit unions. The Android team is responsible for developing and maintaining the Android version of Banno Mobile, a white‑label digital banking application used by financial institutions nationwide to provide a modern mobile experience to their customers.
About the Apprenticeship
As a Software Engineering Apprentice – Android, you’ll gain hands‑on experience contributing to a production mobile application used by hundreds of financial institutions. This is a learning‑first role designed for individuals early in their software engineering journey who are eager to grow their Android skills while working alongside experienced engineers in a supportive, collaborative environment.
The apprenticeship aligns with Jack Henry’s Software Engineering career path, with potential conversion to a full‑time Engineer I, Software role based on performance, business needs, and program completion.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
- Learn Android development practices and become familiar with the team’s codebase
- Triage and resolve incoming bug reports and minor enhancements
- Implement small to medium‑sized code changes under mentorship
- Pair and shadow senior engineers on larger or more complex projects
- Participate in team discussions, code reviews, and daily collaboration
- Build a strong foundation in mobile development within a regulated fintech environment

While communication style may vary by individual, apprentices are expected to engage with teammates daily through chat, meetings, or pairing. Early‑career talent is encouraged to be curious, proactive, and comfortable exploring independently while asking questions whenever needed.

This role is ideal for someone who views themselves as a humble, lifelong learner and is excited about growing their skills in Android development. Successful apprentices are curious, communicative, and unafraid to ask questions or make mistakes as part of the learning process.
Minimum Qualifications
All apprentice candidates must:
- Be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
- Meet legal requirements to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Java and/or Kotlin
- Exposure to Android development concepts or tooling
- Familiarity with GitHub or other version control platforms
You don’t need to meet every preferred qualification to apply. We value curiosity, effort, and a willingness to learn.
