We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Systems Programmer to help manage, maintain, and optimize our mainframe infrastructure. This role is essential to ensuring the reliable operation of our business-critical applications. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mainframe technologies, be self-motivated, and capable of working independently within a smaller tech environment. The ideal candidate also brings curiosity to learn new things—Jack Henry’s mainframe environment runs a Java-based application, offering team members the opportunity to gain experience with these modern technologies.

This position can be based to work out of any Jack Henry office or remotely from any US location.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Perform regular maintenance, updates, and tuning of the mainframe systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade the z/OS operating system and related software products (e.g., DB2, MQ, ADFZ, JAVA, Omegamon and zSecure).
  • Monitor system performance and implement improvements to ensure efficient resource utilization.
  • Manage and enforce security policies, ensuring the mainframe environment meets industry standards and compliance requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve system issues promptly, providing technical support and troubleshooting for mainframe-related problems.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, changes, and procedures to support future maintenance and audits.
  • Work closely with application developers, operations teams, and other stakeholders to ensure the mainframe systems meet business needs and support new initiatives.
  • May perform other job duties as assigned.

What you’ll need to have:

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in mainframe systems programming.
  • Experience with z/OS.
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following mainframe utilities and tools: JCL, SMP/E, ISPF, TSO/E, and RACF.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% for team meetings and training events.

What would be nice for you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • IBM Certified System Programmer.
