As a Engineering Manager, Core Infrastructure at Jack Henry, you’ll have the opportunity to drive innovation and build platforms that will help financial institutions innovate faster, differentiate strategically, and advocate for their members and communities. You’ll collaborate cross functionally with a diverse team of engineers, architects, leaders, product managers and customers to ensure we deliver high quality software that meets the needs of our users.

Our engineers manage cloud and/or on-prem solutions and are responsible for writing clean, maintainable code, implementing new features, resolving bugs, and fostering collaboration within the team. Successful engineers will have strong technical skills and effective grasp of software design principles, object-oriented programming concepts, and testing methodologies. Depending on the product group areas you contribute to, you'll have the opportunity to code in various modern languages and leverage cutting edge tools such as Scala, C#, Java, Ruby, Kotlin, Objective-C, Swift, Go, Docker, Kubernetes, Swagger/OpenAPI, Node.js, Redis, Postgres, Azure, Google Cloud (GCP) and more.

Our Infrastructure Core Services teams are focused on delivering compute, data, secrets management and workload orchestration in the cloud. The core teams spearhead the migration of workload from on premise data centers to GCP. We partner with our infrastructure platform teams to deliver pipelines, identity, observability, tooling and security within the platform. We partner with product engineering teams to build performant, scalable, and secure services that are responsible for transactions, payments, deposits, transfers, auth, and platform integrations.

This position will be filled to work remotely in the U.S. or at any Jack Henry office location. The target salary range for this position is $140,000 – 215,000 based on location and experience. There may be travel up to 10% for team meetings and other events. 

You will (responsibilities): 

  • You will work as a Team lead in core infrastructure. Alongside the team's technical leads, you will define the team's vision and roadmap.  
  • Build relationships with technical leads and team leads to support delivery and team health.  
  • Understand the difference between high leverage work and low priority work to help your team reinforce boundaries for the work they take on. 
  • Provide clarity to those around you to know who we are and who we are not, to give space for teams to focus and deliver.  
  • Work with product engineering teams to develop alignment of priorities. Then proactively and openly communicate what will be impacted when priorities change. 
  • Encourage and support decision making and ownership by engineers. Empowering engineers to engage and take ownership of problems both large and small.   
  • Have difficult, but candid conversations that enable teams to calibrate their approach to work. 
  • May perform other job duties as assigned. 

You have (minimum requirements): 

  • Spent at least 8 years in development or infrastructure as an individual contributor building significant organizational influence (e.g. Senior, Staff+). 
  • Led a team or multiple teams for 3 years within a fast and ever-changing environment. 
  • Leveraged a work system that fits within the broader agile umbrella for 3 years. 
  • Worked with infrastructure as code in a cloud environment for 5 years (e.g. Terraform). 
  • Experience with all facets of the employee lifecycle that are a part of leading healthy, high velocity teams.

  • Committed to developing your craft; i.e. a deep understanding of the technical and socio-technical systems, skills and techniques important to the masterful execution of your work.  
  • A rebel in all the best ways; you challenge prevailing thoughts or assumptions when warranted and suggest better alternatives. 
  • Able to identify, develop, and support the formative practices and rhythms that make for effective engineers and leaders.  
  • Skilled at listening well to those you work with to understand their views, to equip and challenge them to take on progressively more difficult situations.  
  • Quick to get up to speed in situational context. Open to discuss the merits of a solution amongst your co-workers by inviting others to the conversation yet holding steadfast to the vision and values of the organization.  
  • Effective at facilitating opportunities for engineers with opposing thoughts to listen to one another and help them develop the ability to see problems from multiple viewpoints.  
  • Capable of serving in the background and able to recognize when to step in front of a problem to take it on directly.  
  • An effective and candid communicator that is able to openly communicate in large/public channels.
