Job Description

Jack Henry is seeking a Malware Research Engineer.

As a member of the Cyber Security Services (CSS) - Incident and Threat Management Team the Malware Research Engineer will continuously refine threat prevention, detection and response capabilities by monitoring and analyzing threat actor techniques and malware families targeting and/or impacting JHA. The successful candidate will focus on malware analysis and reverse engineering to develop countermeasures, produce actionable threat intelligence and provide reporting on security risk metrics, trends and adversary behaviors.

The successful candidate will join a team of security professionals that perform security monitoring, threat hunting, malware research, digital forensics and incident response across the Jack Henry Enterprise.


  • A Minimum of 18 months of information technology or information security experience.
  • At least 1 year of coding experience with languages such as Python, PowerShell or C/C++.
  • Experience in analyzing malicious web code (Java, HTML, JavaScript, PHP).


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in relevant IT field (Software Engineering, Computer Science, Network Security).
  • Information technology or information security experience that includes experience with debuggers, disassemblers, and hex editors such as  (IDA pro, Immunity Debugger).
  • Malware Analysis/Reverse Engineering related certification (GREM) or other similar training preferred.
  • Experience in analyzing malicious web code (Java, HTML, JavaScript, PHP).



  • Performs analysis on systems and malicious samples to identify current infection trends.  Uses tools to determine appropriate actions to take. 
  • Reverse engineers software and analyzes multiple code sources to identify malicious activity.
  • Responds to alerts and security related issues to gather samples for analysis.   
  • Performs incident response; identifies unauthorized access to systems; may inventory computers for unauthorized programs and suspected malicious activity
  • Provides basic troubleshooting and customer support regarding security related issues.  Identifies and evaluates new antimalware and incident response tools.
  • Provides support for security-related projects as assigned.
